Green open access

OpenDOAR

This open repository database is a useful tool for finding a suitable repository for self-archiving.


SHERPA/RoMEO

A database of licensing policies of scientific publishers in relation to self-archiving (green open access).It is for reference only. Verification of the license terms on the publisher's website is always necessary.


Zenodo

Multidisciplinary, so-called orphan repository of the European Commission for publications as well as data, reports and other digital outputs related to a research project. Each record is assigned a permanent identifier DOI.

Gold open access

Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB)

Directory of peer-reviewed scientific e-books published in the open access mode. The interface contains an index of information about these e-books with links to the full texts of publications on the publisher's website or in other repositories.


Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)

This directory of open journals is a useful tool for finding a suitable open journal (gold open access). In the interface you will find information about the journal (price of publication fees, licenses, etc.) and for a large number of titles it is possible to search articles within them as well.


Open Research Europe (ORE)

European Commission’s publishing platform that enables Horizon 2020/Horizon Europe grantees from all disciplines to publish their research results in open access free of charge. Received publications will first be published in a preprint version and then go through an open peer-review. See the article guidelines for more information.

OpenAIRE

European Commission’s project building a support infrastructure for open access to the results of scientific projects funded by the European Union. It is an aggregator of open repositories. It also produces a number of educational videos and webinars, which you can find on the OpenAIRE Youtube channel.

Applications to look for open access content with the option to report the unavailability of an article.

A campaign that offers a guide to assess the credibility of the journal or publisher in which the author wants to publish. This video describes how it works.


Unpaywall

A plugin for Google Chrome or Firefox that allows you to search for a legally accessible version of an article.

Research data

Amnesia

Amnesia is a data anonymization tool, that allows to remove identifying information from data. Amnesia not only removes direct identifiers like names, SSNs etc. but also transforms secondary identifiers like birth date and zip code so that individuals cannot be identified in the data. Check this webinar to learn more about Amnesia.


DMPonline

Freely available web-based tool provided by the Digital Curation Centre that helps you to create, review, and share data management plans. The tool includes a general template as well as templates compliant with funders’ requirements (e.g., Horizon 2020), and features a list of publicly available DMPs.


FAIR self-assessment tool

This tool will help you evaluate how FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable) are your data. You can also use this checklist to help you assess the FAIRness of your data.


Re3data.org (Registry of Research Data Repositories)

The Registry of Research Data Repositories offers an overview of existing international data repositories and provides useful information to help you choose a suitable repository for your research data.

OSF is a freely available tool for coordinating research projects, which also enables you to preregister your study or publish a preprint. OSF can also be used as an Electronic Lab Notebook (watch this video for useful tips).
