Currently, the Charles University lacks support for computational tools for science and research to complement the existing support for research data management. The consequence of this is that many departments suffer from a significant barrier that prevents them from accessing state-of-the-art computing tools. These tools can range from scripts for data processing and visualisation, cloud-based systems for science and research, to complex computational codes performing demanding computational tasks.
In collaboration between the Centre for Open Science and the Faculties of Mathematics and Physics, Arts and 2nd Faculty of Medicine, we are establishing the Research Software Engineering (RSE) Expert Group whose aim is to address this issue and offer related services, consultation and advice to users from all faculties. Under the auspices of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, a new “High Performance Computing” computing centre is currently being established in Trója, which will complement these services with access to computing machines. At the moment, work is underway to map the specific computing needs of users from across the University and in particular the needs for expert support for scientific software, its development and maintenance.
Discussions are currently being held with specific users about their specific computing needs in order to gain support from the rectorate for the introduction of a targeted scientific software support service to the whole University. In particular, requests from colleagues in the humanities are key.
If you would like to pass on information about the needs of your disciplines or research groups, or know that you could use such services in the future, please contact . and Your interest is necessary for the success of the project.
