Charles University has adopted an institutional data policy. The material was discussed and approved by the University Research Board on 14 December 2023, and subsequently discussed and approved by the Academic Senate on 9 February 2024.
The purpose of the data policy is to promote good practice in research data management by specifying the basic principles of research data management, and by delineating the responsibilities of the University and its researchers. The policy also provides information on available institutional support that researchers may use to meet the standards set out in the policy. The policy includes three main sections:
Basic principles: Data collection and storage, data preservation, data sharing
Available support: Contact details of the departments providing support
Responsibilities
Researcher: Manage their data in accordance with the basic principles
University: Provides infrastructure and support
Considering that there are various discipline specific norms across the diverse spectrum of research, the policy does not obligate researchers to use prescribed tools when working with research data. The data policy does not obligate researchers to share their research data.
Following the approval of the institutional data policy, informative seminars will be held at individual faculties where the policy, its principles and available support will be introduced.
